Journal Club

If you are looking to get a leg up on your Evidence Based Medicine and get practice critically appraising research for your future career, the MRSS Journal Club is for you!

For those of you who are unfamiliar; journal club is a monthly gathering of motivated medical students. The meetings will be regular, scheduled; including two short presentations of recent, relevant research findings of any speciality.

Students sign up to be presenters at the start of the year. We will send out presentation dates to the first in, best dressed. In the lead up to your presentation, we will put you in contact with an experienced research student who will guide you as to how best to select and format your presentation.

Click on the link below to sign up! Here are the top 5 reasons this is not to be missed:

?1. Unique opportunity to sharpen your presentation skills in an intimate, safe space. This simulates the experience of presenting research at a conference, providing invaluable practice.

?2. One-to-one guidance and feedback throughout the process, you will learn important critical appraisal skills.

?3. Networking opportunity to meet like-minded research inclined students.

?4. This professional development opportunity is completely free.

?5. A goal of our club is to disseminate knowledge and improve clinical practice. At the very least, this is passive exposure to up-to-date, evidence based medicine.

Our first meeting will be held in approximately one month. This is entirely for practice and no experience is required! Watch this space for more details, we look forward to seeing you there.

*COVID-19 changes update*

Alfred and SCS Journal clubs will be integrating as one body for semester one. In fact, we will be opening our doors to students of all clinical sites. In the interests of social distancing, we will be holding our sessions on Zoom.
